How Khamo Law Went From Survival Mode to 80% Growth in Two Years

When Koro Khamo opened his personal injury practice to serve Michigan’s Chaldean community, he faced a perfect storm: tort reform devastated his practice area, COVID shut down the courts, operational challenges exposed him to $2 million in malpractice claims, and a catastrophic trial loss drained $100,000 from his own pocket. With his firm in survival mode, Khamo partnered with Crisp Coach to build the operational infrastructure he desperately needed. The result is 40% year-over-year growth for 2024 and another 40% in projected growth for 2025.

Khamo Law

Koro Khamo didn’t become a personal injury attorney for the money. He opened his practice in 2018 to fulfill what he considered a sacred responsibility.

Koro was born in Baghdad, Iraq, and then immigrated to and grew up in Michigan as the youngest of nine children. From a young age, he watched his loved ones sacrifice their own education so he could become the first person in their family to go to college. He earned his finance degree from the University of Michigan Business School, then his law degree from Michigan State, driven by a single purpose: serving the Chaldean community that raised him.

“Being given the privilege of going to school to help our people is the biggest blessing,” Koro explains. “I really do believe that God put me in this world to help people, and I’m happy that I can do that through auto accidents and getting them justice.”

The Chaldean community is a modern, Aramaic-speaking Christian ethnicity from northern Iraq, and Koro’s home state of Michigan hosts the largest Chaldean population outside of Iraq.

Unfortunately, his passion to give back didn’t automatically translate into business acumen. Koro quickly discovered that building a thriving practice required more than legal expertise. It demanded operational systems, leadership skills, and strategic frameworks he simply didn’t have. Without them, his mission to serve the underserved would remain just that: a mission without the means to fulfill it.

The Results

Since partnering with Crisp Coach in late 2021, Khamo Law has achieved transformation across every area of the firm:

Doubled Revenue After Spending 2023 in Survival Mode.
After tort reform slashed revenue 30%, the firm rebounded with 40% growth in 2024 and another 30.5% in 2025. This consistent expansion demonstrated that their operations could help the firm sustainably scale.

Partnered With Executive Leadership That Enables Focus on Vision.
Koro brought in an integrator to manage daily operations, which freed him to work on the business — strategy, growth, and planning — instead of being buried in it.

Created Predictable Growth Through Operational Infrastructure.
The firm now has clear KPIs, hiring frameworks, and capacity planning that enable strategic expansion. Koro knows exactly how many cases each team member can handle and when to hire, which helped him take the guesswork out of growth.

Positioned the Firm at the Cutting Edge with AI Implementation.
Rather than fearing technology, Koro embraced it as a competitive advantage. The entire team now uses AI tools to dramatically increase the quality and efficiency of their work, allowing them to serve more clients at a higher level.

Restored Work-Life Balance.
Years of crisis management caused both his work and personal life to suffer. Now, Koro finally has the systems and team in place to work reasonable hours while the business thrives. His personal transformation mirrors his professional success.

Challenges

When Koro opened Khamo Law in November 2018 with limited funds and limited experience, he couldn’t have predicted what would come next.

In 2019, tort reform legislation completely upended Michigan auto accident law. Then COVID hit in 2020, shutting down the legal system and forcing him to let go of everyone except his paralegal. He had to start from scratch.

By 2021, the firm showed new signs of life. But without proper operations, Koro placed too much trust in his team without sufficient supervision. As a result, Koro was hit with a potential $2 million malpractice exposure in his fourth full year of business.

Then came 2022. Still reeling from operational failures, Koro prepared to try his biggest case yet — one he’d been building for nearly five years. He spent two-and-a-half weeks in an unfavorable jurisdiction, only to watch the jury reach an unfavorable verdict. Because of that single loss, he lost $100,000 out of his own pocket.

“It was around that time to where it was the least amount of money that I had in my account,” Koro recalls. “If we weren’t able to push cases, I would have gone out of business.”

That’s when he reached out to successful Michigan attorneys already working with Crisp. Their advice was unanimous: “Just do it. Do whatever they tell you to do.”

Koro jumped in with both feet. But the next two years tested him in ways he never imagined. The “no-fault” auto accident tort reform took full effect in 2023, and his business dropped 30% while expenses stayed the same. His marriage suffered. His firm was in survival mode.

“It was probably the hardest time in my life because the business was failing and my home life was in jeopardy,” he shares. “But I so believed in everything that Crisp was teaching me, and I knew it was going to take time.”

How We Helped

Working with his Crisp Coach team, Koro leveraged his PREMIER membership to rebuild his firm from the ground up. The transformation required comprehensive support across every aspect of his business.

He Developed Clear Vision and Strategic Planning
Before Crisp, Koro reacted to crises rather than building for the future. Working with his Crisp Coach, he created an 11-year strategic projection that maps exactly where he’s headed: a top 10 personal injury firm in Michigan with the operational infrastructure to scale predictably.

This clarity transformed how Koro leads. Instead of fighting daily fires, he focuses on the bigger picture, guiding the firm toward specific, measurable goals. The vision isn’t aspirational anymore. It’s operational.

He Built Leadership Capacity Through Strategic Delegation
Koro’s breakthrough came when he made a critical decision: hiring an integrator to manage operations. This wasn’t admitting defeat. It was multiplying his impact.

“Lisa’s awesome,” Koro says of his top operator. “She believed in the vision, I believed in the vision, my team believed in the vision. And [the Crisp team] believed in me and the team. That’s the most I can ask for.”

With Lisa managing daily operations, Koro finally escaped the trap of daily firefighting. The firm’s 40% growth in 2024 directly resulted from this leadership shift, proving that the right organizational structure enables exponential expansion.

He Created Operational Systems That Enable Predictable Growth
Crisp Coach provided the frameworks Koro needed to transform chaos into clarity. The firm now has defined KPIs, capacity planning, and hiring triggers that removed guesswork from growth decisions.

“After a certain amount of intakes, a certain amount of clients signed up, then we hire staff because now we’re figuring out how many cases a staff member can handle with their KPIs,” Koro says.

He Positioned the Firm as an Innovation Leader
Koro realized early on that AI was a differentiator rather than a threat. Working with his Crisp Coach team, he implemented AI tools across the firm to increase productivity and output quality.

“I’ve told my whole office to start using Copilot, ChatGPT, and to use Grok and whatever AI that they have when it comes to getting their work done,” he explains. “Now our work product has drastically increased, and it’s allowing us to make more money based on AI.”

This forward-thinking approach doesn’t replace people. Instead, it equips them to be more effective and efficient, which directly supports the firm’s growth trajectory.

He Built a Team Culture Aligned with His Mission
After the painful lessons of 2021 and 2022, Koro learned that hiring A-players who share his vision is non-negotiable. Working with his Crisp Coach team, he developed hiring frameworks that ensure cultural fit and commitment to serving the Chaldean community.

“I got a solid team and I’m ready for the world,” he says with confidence.

The team doesn’t just process cases. They carry forward Koro’s mission to be the advocate that vulnerable people desperately need. This alignment creates the foundation for sustainable growth without compromising on values.

Where They Are Today

Today, Khamo Law operates from a position of strength. Operations run smoothly without constant firefighting. The team is aligned around a clear vision. Growth is predictable and sustainable.

And the firm’s transformation is being recognized. Khamo Law earned the accolade of PREMIER Firm of the Year at the 2025 Crisp Game Changer Awards.

While the awards confirm Khamo Law is moving in the right direction, more importantly, Koro himself has been transformed.

“I cannot get over how much I’ve changed in just a little over a year,” Koro reflects. “Yes, my firm is doing better, and we’ve doubled our caseload, implemented all these new things, and it’s great and all. But honestly? It’s hard to overstate how this has affected me personally.”

His marriage is stronger. His team trusts him. After years of hanging by a thread, Koro can deliver on the promise that brought him to law: being the attorney his community needs.

“This is God’s way of saying I’m doing something right,” Koro says. “And I hope I don’t screw it up.”

His humility, combined with relentless drive and unwavering vision, positions Khamo Law perfectly not just to compete, but to dominate as one of Michigan’s top personal injury firms while never losing sight of the mission: serving the underserved with excellence, compassion, and justice.

Looking ahead, Koro sees limitless possibilities. With operations dialed in, AI implementation accelerating, and a team that shares his mission, Khamo Law is ready for what comes next.

“The future is bright,” Koro says. “I know I can be in the top 10 in Michigan. We have the operations in place. We have the team. We have the vision. Now it’s time to change the world.”
