When the COVID crisis first hit, attorney Jonathan Michaels of MLG Attorneys at Law and his team came together to create “Operation: Dynamo,” an extensive plan designed to help them navigate this time of uncertainty to come out stronger on the other side.
He sits down with Crisp Founder & CEO Michael Mogill in the latest installment of Leading Through Adversity to talk through the changes the firm has put in place to ensure they are ready to crush it once life returns to normal.

0:38 – In this together. “We brought everybody together and had a direct and open conversation with all of our employees. We told all of our employees, ‘No one’s getting fired. No one’s getting furloughed. We’re going to look at this not as a concern, but as an opportunity. We’re going to be here all together. My commitment to you is that we’ll be here until the very last breath. Your commitment to us is you’re going to have to work harder, smarter, and more aggressively than you ever have in your life.’”
1:58 – Invest in opportunity. “We’ve invested substantially in the company. We’ve brought on two new attorneys, and we have invested in technology. A lot of this stuff came from ideas that we learned from the Crisp coaching. We’ve got new programs involved such as Hibob, Bonusly, and different CRM programs that we never really had the opportunity to implement.”
4:49 – Seize the opportunity. “It’s been a total complete disaster. We had two large trials that were scheduled in April and in July, both canceled. The cash flow dried up, and there have been many sleepless nights. You can’t let those circumstances drive you, and you can’t make fear-based decisions. We’ve chosen to look at this as an opportunity because whether you seize the opportunity or you cower in the corner from fear, you’re in a pandemic either way.”
5:28 – Run towards the fire. “We’ve chosen to approach this as an opportunity. Warren Buffet says ‘Be greedy when others are scared, and scared when others are greedy.’ There’s a lot of people that are running from the fire, and we’re not only doubling down — we’re tripling down. We’re running towards it.”
6:45 – Different perspective. “Everyone’s on Facebook and Instagram, but we decided to look at it from a different perspective and look at the power that can be harnessed from that. We went from posting three times a week to posting 85 times a month on social media, as well as running the Social Stack campaign with Crisp.”
9:47 – Do not panic. “The first thing is don’t panic. We will get back to being involved in trying cases. You can’t make fear-based decisions. You have to take advantage of this as an opportunity and turn every negative into a positive. If you take advantage of the time, you can do so much help for your business.”
