Episode 508 — Anything is Possible if You Embrace Challenge with Eric Thomas
Are you putting more effort into looking successful than into actually getting there?
As part of the “Road to the Summit,” a special series ramping up to the 2026 Game Changers Summit this November 11-12, we’re revisiting some of the most powerful conversations ever featured at our events. In this encore episode of The Game Changing Attorney Podcast, we’re throwing it back to the 2024 Game Changers Summit, where Eric Thomas, acclaimed author and motivational speaker, took the stage to share what it takes to keep climbing when everyone else has settled.
Eric Thomas has been getting up at 3 a.m. for more than 30 years, and he makes the case that staying power matters more than talent. Using the hunting habits of lions and African wild dogs, he shows why the best results go to the people who outlast the competition and bring a team along. He also shares the personal story behind what drives him every time he steps on a stage.
Here’s what you’ll learn:
- Why competitive stamina matters more than talent, speed, or strength
- How to build a team that matches your level of intensity
- What it takes to stay mentally tough when things stop going your way
If you are ready to do the difficult thing everyone around you keeps avoiding, this episode will show you where to start.

Show Notes:
Competitive stamina is a promise to yourself that no amount of time, research, or money will make you quit. “It means that you’ve made up your mind that whatever your goal is, you’re going to go after it and you’re not going to stop until you get it. It doesn’t matter how long it takes. It doesn’t matter how much research it takes. It doesn’t matter how much money it takes.”
Mastering the hard thing puts distance between you and everyone sticking with the comfortable one. “If you want to take your business to the next level, you have to stop doing what everybody else is doing. You have to stop doing what’s comfortable. You have to stop doing what’s convenient. And you’ve got to find difficult, and you’ve got to wake up every day and do difficult until you master it. And once you master difficult, you separate yourself from everybody else.”
The pace you set for yourself has to be the pace you build into the whole team. “It doesn’t just need to be difficult for you as the CEO. Everybody in there needs to be difficult. I don’t care if it’s the administrative assistant. It needs to be. You need to create a culture of difficulty.”
Plenty of lawyers hold the same degrees and pass the same bar exam, so mental toughness is what sets you apart. “Everybody went to college. Everybody graduated. Everybody passed the bar. Not everybody is mentally tough. Not everybody is strong. Not everybody is willing to come up with a solution and do whatever it takes.”
Developing who you are carries you further than any image you project. “You don’t have to look the part. You can really be the part… It doesn’t matter what I look like. It’s how I have developed myself, who I’ve become.”
Once success feels like enough, the reason to keep going has to come from somewhere deeper. “Why? What’s pushing you? What’s driving you? And I’m just going to be honest. A lot of you, you’ve gotten to a point where you got enough success for you, and you quit because you don’t have that drive.”
