Episode 467 — The Physiological Science Behind Resilience

Elite performance does not come from chasing more hacks. It comes from knowing what matters, cutting what does not, and executing when conditions are not perfect.

In this episode of The Game Changing Attorney Podcast, Michael Mogill sits down with Dr. Andy Galpin to break down what separates truly high performers from everyone else. From toughness and self-talk to sleep, strength training, and resilience, Dr. Galpin explains why better performance starts with fewer distractions and better constraints.

Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • Why toughness means producing even when the conditions are working against you
  • How to identify the real constraints holding back your energy, focus, and performance
  • What it takes to build resilience through sleep, strength training, and smarter recovery

Stop chasing every new protocol. The people who perform at the highest level focus on what actually moves the needle.

Show Notes:

Consistency beats novelty. “Consistently producing is game changing. Because that’s really hard to do. It’s very difficult to continue to produce.”

Elite performers stop chasing more and focus on what works. “They tend to be extremely good at figuring out what are the one, two, three, four things that work perfect for them and their physiology and their goals and limitations. And then they drilled on that, and they’re really good about just letting the shit go.”

Toughness is the ability to execute when conditions are not perfect. “They’re tough in the sense that they can perform when they don’t want to. They’re able to execute under changing circumstances.”

Most people are solving the wrong problem. “We are on a quest permanently to look at that defender. You might be concerned about your testosterone or your brain fog, but that might not be where the defender is.”

Performance requires precision, not generic advice. “You tell me the constraints, and then we play with those constraints.”

Optimization without resilience creates bigger problems later. “The vast majority of non-athletes don’t want optimization. What you want is peak resilience and adaptability.”

Strength training impacts far more than muscle. “You can’t pick a physiological system that strength training doesn’t have an enormous impact on.”
