Episode 428 — AMMA — What To Do When You Outgrow Your Circles

What’s stopping you from keeping the promises you make to yourself?

In this episode of The Game Changing Attorney Podcast, Michael and Jessica Mogill unpack the real cost of breaking commitments to yourself and why most New Year’s resolutions fail before February. From outgrowing old friend groups to walking away from prestigious obligations that no longer serve you, this conversation challenges you to stop negotiating with yourself and start building a life that reflects your actual priorities.

Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • Why breaking small commitments to yourself erodes your ability to follow-through on bigger goals
  • How to recognize when relationships and obligations are holding you back instead of pushing you forward
  • What it takes to stay a student of your craft even when you think you’ve figured it all out

This episode is a challenge to stop breaking promises to yourself and start building the discipline required to become who you say you want to be.

Show Notes:

Follow-through builds self-respect. “If you get into a habit of continuously following through on your commitments to yourself, then you gain discipline.”

Personal excellence can inspire or alienate. “If you’re going to step outside the box, there’s going to be people that look at it and say, ‘Wow, that is different.’ There’s going to be friends that come with you, and then you’re going to make new friends in new circles.”

Trade-offs reveal your true priorities. “There’s an opportunity cost to making one commitment. What does that prevent you from being able to do? Is the juice worth the squeeze, and is that tradeoff worth it?”

Never stop being a student. “I do think it’s important to always maintain a student mindset. You just don’t know what you don’t know. If you get away from that too much and you start to think you figured it all out, that’s where I’ve seen a lot of entrepreneurs get humbled and start to regress.”
