Episode 385 — AMMA — The Real Reason You’re Stuck at 7 Figures
What if the very thing holding your law firm back… is you?
In this episode of The Game Changing Attorney Podcast, Michael and Jessica Mogill tackle three of the most common (and costly) growth blockers law firm owners face — shiny object syndrome, unproductive comparisons, and the belief that “no one can do it like I can.” If your firm has plateaued, if you’re burning cash on a bloated team, or if you’ve convinced yourself that scaling personal touch is impossible, this conversation will hit home. It’s not about working harder — it’s about thinking smarter.
Here’s what you’ll learn:
- Why adding new practice areas too early can hurt your firm and what to do instead
- How to tell if your firm is overstaffed or simply underperforming
- What it really takes to grow a relationship-driven firm without relying only on yourself
You don’t need more practice areas, fewer people, or a copy of yourself to grow. You need the discipline to focus, the courage to optimize, and the humility to let go.

Show Notes:
Chasing new ideas too early can hold you back. “If you’ve plateaued at a million in revenue, you should not even be thinking about diversification. You haven’t maximized what you already have.”
Growth comes from discipline, not novelty. “Everyone loves to start something new. But great businesses are built by doing the boring, repetitive things for a long time.”
Your headcount might not be the problem. “If someone has the same revenue with half your team, they may have better people, better cases, or both.”
Cutting costs without a plan will cost you more. “You don’t just start cutting arms and legs. If you reduce your team without understanding what’s driving performance, you’ll tank your firm.”
You are not the only one who can deliver great results. “There are graveyards full of irreplaceable people. The belief that you’re the only one who can do what you do will always keep you stuck.”
You can scale values and culture. “You don’t need another you — you need to scale the things that make your firm special through hiring, training, and systems.”
Let go of your own ego to grow. “We are not as important as we think we are. And when we stop trying to do everything ourselves, that’s when the real growth starts.”
